Sustainability in laboratories

Posted by mike in Energy, Estates, Waste Management

This might be of interest for some of our more technical facilities:

Colleagues may be interested in two new S-Lab case studies. One examines energy management in the University of York’s Department of Biology, which
has reduced its electricity consumption (a third of the university’s total) by 8% over the last two years. The Department is unusual, if not unique, in using its own budget to fund a dedicated Energy Manager, Jo Hossell. Another case shows how the University of Edinburgh’s Chemistry Dept has saved £100,000 in chemical purchases and reduced waste through a new chemical management system. You can hear more on this and other lab environmental improvement options at our 6 free lab events in June, which cover topics such as clean rooms, energy efficient new build and refurbishment, good lab housekeeping, and sustainable laboratory chemistry. All at www.goodcampus.org/s-lab (under events or cases)
