On Friday, 17 November, led by Maryssa Cook-Obregón London College of Fashion’s PG Community Ambassador– members of the UAL Postgraduate Community met at Rich Mix to see Twistov, an interactive theatrical update of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist.
The performance started behind the theatre, and then audience groups were separated and directed to follow a particular character who took them on a journey through the back alleys, and even some flats of surrounding Shoreditch. The postgraduate student group followed the Artful Dodger, a character played by alumna and former Central Saint Martins PG Community Ambassador Noemi Gunea.
In Twistov, the Artful Dodger is a Romanian ruffian who gets by on quick wits and under the protection and direction of Fagin, a ruthless fixer who assigns new identities and finds low-paying work for desperate migrants with little or no recourse or resources. Fittingly, the storylines and characters all converged at the Nomadic Gardens of Brick Lane, where the elusive title character is found, or is he?
