Programme Director in Design at London College of Communication (LCC) Nicky Ryan delivered a presentation called ‘Creative Collaborations’ on 10 April at the ‘Expertise, Engagement and Impact’ event organized by the Share Academy. The partnership between UCL, UAL and the London Museums Group (LMG) aims to broker stronger connections between the Higher Education and museum sectors.

Nicky discussed a range of projects undertaken in the last five years by LCC in collaboration with the Cuming Museum and reflected on the benefits and challenges of such partnerships. Sadly representatives from the Cuming Museum were unable to attend because they were busy salvaging artefacts following extensive damage caused by fire on 25 March.

PR students collaborate on social media newsrooms

Earlier this year students from London College of Communication’s BA (Hons) Public Relations course gained some practical experience of social technologies that are changing the way PR practitioners produce and share content online when they had a session on social media newsrooms with PressPage. Here, year 2 PR student Melanie Trombetta describes the experience.

“On January 24th, Roel Cozjinsen, successful and charismatic co-owner and general manager UK at PressPage, the leading social media newsroom technology, shared his knowledge of the practical side of social media and web publishing with Year 2 BA (Hons) Public Relations (PR) students.

Roel taught us about how social media is used to distribute news as well as introducing us to the PressPage online newsroom platform. He defined the workshop as a “Great opportunity to work together with a world leading University and to give students a practical experience to benefit from.”

We also had the privilege to try out the PressPage technology in the context of a competition, which consisted of designing the perfect LCC Newsroom featuring social media releases.

The general feedback from PR students was that they were very grateful for this fascinating workshop which introduced us to cutting edge social media technologies and the extraordinary potential they offer. As a result we’re one step closer to becoming successful PR practitioners!

The session was definitely appealing to me as it made me realize how important it is for an individual or a corporation to establish and manage their online identity. Not only that but we were able to gain a unique opportunity to familiarize ourselves with the PressPage newsroom technology which is widely used by leading global PR agencies and their clients.
This is one small step for students, but one giant leap for the making of our kick-ass CV.”

Sports Journalism student reports for the FA

England Football Team World Cup 2010 Football Picture

As England fans prepared for their trip to Montenegro on Tuesday night for a must-win game London College of Communication (LCC) student Sam Rowntree was invited to report on the group’s travel preparations.

BA (Hons) Sports Journalism student Sam joined the fans at their travel forum and will be writing a bylined article for the FA website about his experience of being a travelling supporter on his return.

An amazing opportunity for Sam, but a disappointing result. England let a halftime lead slip, the game finishing in a 1-1 draw, leaving England with an uphill task to qualify for next year’s World Cup in Brazil.
