London College of Communication is committed to providing an affordable education for anyone – regardless of background, and so we are pleased to announce a new bursary fund, Hegarty Foundation Bursaries, supported by legendary creative and LCC alumnus Sir John Hegarty.

Sir John Hegarty, an alumnus of LCC whose career in the creative advertising industry spans 50 years, is generously funding UAL bursaries for students as they embark on a new journey in higher education. Sir John Hegarty has pledged to make an annual donation of undergraduate bursaries across LCC courses to students who have progressed through UAL’s Insight programme.

LCC Development Manager Sarah Ellison, who helps encourage donations to LCC, said: “We are reliant upon the generosity of donors like Sir John to help make university education affordable for those of our students who are unable to meet the current tuition fee and living costs. This invaluable support will have a tremendous impact on our students.”

Earlier this year Sir John visited LCC for a tour of his old college and met the students who have been awarded a Hegarty Bursary, which started in 2017/18. This annual fund will provide twelve bursaries for four recipients in each year of undergraduate study at LCC. The selected students will go on to receive a bursary in each year of their undergraduate degree.

LCC believes that widening participation to art and design higher education is essential to nurturing the artists and designers of the future. The UAL Insight Programme works with students in partner schools and further education colleges in Greater London, whose parent(s) or guardian(s) have not completed a university degree.

Sir John Hegarty is an alumnus of LCC (formerly London College of Printing) and an Honorary Fellow. Hegarty is Global Creative Director and co-founder of legendary advertising agency Bartle Bogle and Hegarty (BBH). He is a Founding Director of Saatchi & Saatchi and co-founded BBH in 1982. At BBH, he has been responsible for some of the best-known campaigns of the last 20 years including the Levi advertisement which featured Nick Kamen in the launderette.
