Uncertainty Playground is a series of exhibitions, events and podcasts which consider how design can define, address and make meaning from the ambiguities and uncertainties that we currently face.

As part of London Design Festival 2017, London College of Communication presents four exhibitions and related events that explore the role of design research and practice in imagining, critiquing and shaping potential futures.

Uncertainty Playground Symposium, taking place on Friday 22 September 2017, will feature Keynotes and panel discussions relating to the exhibition. Here, we introduce the speakers…

The Symposium will feature Keynotes from Sarah Weir OBE, Dr. Francisco Laranjo, and Jan Boelen, as well as a number of panel discussions. Uncertainty Playground is free and open to all, but booking via Eventbrite is essential. Find out timings for on the Symposium event listing.

In addition to the Keynotes, four panel discussions featuring a range of speakers will take place, each centring on the four exhibitions – Possible/Probable WorldsS*PARKFutureMakers, and Room 2084.

A presentation and discussion of future-facing and critical digital practices active at LCC. Participants from the exhibition will present and discuss methodologies and critiques and then engage in discussion with external academics and practitioners.

How can sustainability and socially engaged design enrich the lives of communities?

This panel will discuss the relevance of the public realm in the contemporary city. We recognise the need for design research to respond to the eco-social challenges of our time and proposes environmentally sustainable and socially responsive approaches that enrich human life and human experience.

FutureMakers Panel:

In FutureMakers we will continue to discuss the role of playing and making as a design practice. Tadeo Sendon of ‘Music Hackspace’ has been invited to talk about the uncertainties and difficulties about maintaining an open and creative space for making in London.
