This beautifully illustrated map of Hackney according to London College of Communication graduate Kate Hyde has been included in a new book, A Map of the World: The World According to Illustrators and Storytellers.

Kate, who completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Design for Visual Communication in 2011 created the guide to see if tourists brought to London by the 2012 Olympics could be encouraged to explore the host area of Hackney.

A Map of The Word_

With a focus on celebrating the artistic, lively and unusual aspects of the area, Hackney is presented visually as a place for visitors and locals to enjoy. Illustrated walking tours are designed to take the user on a guided tour around highlights of the area that have been suggested by locals.

Consisting of a series of three A3 souvenir posters, fold-out maps and a set of five postcards, this celebratory pack was produced as an almost purely illustrative guide that provides both a functional and accessible visual reference as to what Hackney has to offer. And it makes a pretty attractive souvenir too.

Keen to keep on drawing London, Kate has since produced an illustrated A-Z of London’s street food scene for Boat Magazine which featured in Creative Review.
