This week London College of Communication (LCC) Foundation Diploma Art & Design students kick off our Summer Show season when they showcase their final work in an exhibition opening on Monday 15 April (Private view 16 April 6-9pm).

In a show buzzing with creativity and ideas these hugely talented young artists and designers have produced work in a broad range of disciplines including film, photography, graphic design, 3D and Spatial design and illustration.

Over the next week we’ll be highlighting some of these outstanding young creatives. Starting with an illustrator finding her own style among many influencers.

Lucy’s final major project, Per Manus Multorum (Through many hands) features a series of self portraits inspired by creative people she admires. Methodical in her approach Lucy has documented the progress of her final project and other work from the year in a blog, which includes detailed sketchbooks outlining her thinking.

Lucy explains “as a designer, the necessity to constantly adapt your style as trends change is vitally important, as well as the influence you gain from fellow artists and designers. The need to keep up with some trends can sometimes be overwhelming, and cause a struggle to find your own identity or signature look as an artist. To depict this struggle with creative identity, I made a series of self-portraits in the style of creative people I admire.”

“I researched traditional painters, illustrators makeup artists, graphic designers, filmakers, typographers and photographers and chose my best 18 to include in my final piece. The 19th portrait, is my own style amongst my influencers.”

So can you guess the artists who’ve inspired on this page? Can you spot Lucy’s own amongst them?

LCC’s 2013 Summer Show season will see four exhibitions around the central theme of London College of Exhibitionists. [They] Whisper it quietly but LCC graduates are driving the creative industries, modestly defining the landscape of media and design through photography, graphic design, service design, film, advertising, journalism and publishing.

We don’t usually make a fuss. But this summer we’re inviting you to take a closer look at the next generation of creatives who’ll be shaping the future of the creative industries in the UK and around the world.
