Two London College of Communication (LCC) graduates, Juno Calypso and Chris Cooper, have been included in the prestigious Catlin Guide 2013.
The guide is an introduction to 40 of the most exciting new artists in the UK, selected from a six-month, nationwide survey of curators, art writers, collectors, gallerists and course tutors by curator Justin Hammond. The guide, in its fourth year, is established as an essential reference for followers of contemporary art.
Juno Calypso (LCC BA (Hons) Photography).
Juno’s elaborately staged photographs examine modern rituals of seduction and beauty and have earned her the LCC Hotshoe Portfolio Award and the Michael Wilson Photographic Prize.
Chris Cooper (BA (Hons) Interaction and Moving Image).
In Chris’ work everyday objects get re-contextualized and juxtaposed in scenarios that focus primarily on the relationships between people and place, and which attempt to transgress natural models of activity that have established themselves in peoples lives. Chris was shortlisted for the ArtSlant Prize 2012.
The Catlin Guide will be unveiled at the London Art Fair, 16-20 January 2013, alongside work by a selection of the featured artists. A limited number of free copies will be given away to visitors to The Catlin Guide stand on each day of the fair. It will also be available from Amazon, Culture Label and selected book sellers (£12.99).
