London College of Communication (LCC) hosts the 2012 One World Media Student Showcase on Tuesday 6 November – an exclusive presentation of films about the developing world produced by media and journalism students studying around the UK. They are this year’s Student Bursary Winners, who were funded by One World Media to go overseas and cover international stories.

From stories about China’s biggest school of rock to the women clearing landmines in Cambodia to Ghana’s intrepid ‘Motorbike Midwife’, this will be a chance to see and hear fresh stories from around the world – and meet the emerging journalists and filmmakers who made them. Current students will also learn about One World Media’s funding in 2012-2013.

This year two LCC students, Joshua Hughes and Miguel Rato, have been awarded bursaries. And LCC students awarded the bursary have previously gone on to achieve great success. In 2011 LCC students Giselle Santos and Zena Merton who met on an fdA Media Practice course, went on to win in the student category of 2012 One World Media Awards, with their film, Bagong Silang (New Born).

One World Media has been supporting students to cover stories in the developing world for over 10 years, and now supports students working in all media (film, radio, print, multimedia). Media content funded by One World Media has been selected for numerous international film festivals, won awards, and been published and broadcast by outlets such as the Guardian, National Geographic, and the Community Channel.
