London College of Communication (LCC) graduate Richard Harvey featured in the first episode of BBC Three series Be Your Own Boss. In the show entrepreneur Richard Reed, the smoothie behind innocent drinks is out to find Britain’s next start-up superstars.
Former LCC Interaction and Moving Image student Richard, who started company Poietic Studio with lifelong friend and fellow inventor Kievor John joined 500 hopefuls looking to catch the eye with a brilliant business idea and secure up to £50,000 of investment.
The pair create brilliantly conceptual interactive sculptures. Their installations and sculptures include a floating orchestra of ping-pong balls, a nervous toaster and floating food and they’ve been commissioned by clients including Ford, The English National Ballet and Coldplay.
But it was a Giraffe-like drinks dispenser that senses you’re thirsty and swoops down to top you up that invoked enough wonder in Richard Reed to give them a £5000 seed fund to develop their ideas – and the opportunity to impress for the full £50,000.
You can find out if they did enough to secure the full £50,000 investment on BBC I-player now.
