FORCED to relocate to the mainland within ten years, the Shishmaref, an island Eskimo community in the far north west of Alaska, will soon leave behind centuries of a unique existence in one of the world’s wildest places.
Ciril Jazbec, a recent graduate of London College of Communication’s MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography, hopes to capture what remains of this settlement of just 600 people. Supporting his images will be audio and video interviews, made available for listening and viewing through a website.
Funding his trip is a £3,000 bursary awarded by the Royal Photographic Society and The Photographic Angle.
