Words on design at LCC seminar

INTERNATIONAL HERALD TRIBUNE design critic Alice Rawsthorne gave a keynote speech on design writing this week at the London College of Communication seminar, Why We Write.

The occasion also served as a launch-event for Telling Tales, a book compiled by this year’s graduates on the MA Design Writing Criticism course.  It is a celebration of design writing, and an inquiry into the discipline’s future.

After her speech, Alice sat down with graphic designer Zak Kyes and LCC alumnae Anna Lisa Reynolds and Sarah Handelman to discuss the importance of design criticism.

Alice talked about design being an “agent of change”, and said it was the job of writers to introduce design and its potential to others.

“I don’t think about the future of design, but design as a lens to see the future” Sarah said.
