London College of Communication (LCC) ABC Diploma in Photography student Thamyres Matarozzi has produced a series of stunning images for the penultimate stage of  this year’s Student Focus competition, part of  Sony’s annual World Photography Awards.

In what is possibly the highest profile student competition in photography, Thamy was chosen as one of only ten shortlisted students to participate the latter stage of the competition, creating work in response to this year’s brief – ‘Your world in colour’.

The series, entitled ‘Blissful Wintery Prose’, captures the muted and earthy tones of the UK landscape from the air, about which Thamy poetically enthuses:

“This series of images reveals wintry scenery to alight the viewer’s gaze upon a world of shimmering pale emanation. Within the bleak flora, quirky and twisted forms appear in correspondence with the elements of geometrical inspiration, culminating in a stark contrast between shapes and lines.”

The work is currently on show as part of World Photo, London at Somerset House until the 20th May and although she wasn’t announced as the overall winner, ABC Diploma course director David Carpenter congratulated Thamy on getting so far in this year’s competition:

“The images Thamy submitted were lovely and totally fulfilled the brief.  They were very well received and her work is a credit to our college and the University.  I was delighted with her work and she was a brilliant ambassador for UAL at the awards ceremony at the Hilton.”
