Design student releases first typeface

Eurico Sá Fernandes, a student on the FdA Design for Graphic Communication at London College of Communication (LCC), has released his first typeface called Colher. He began designing it in 2010 as part of a self-initiated project about Portuguese graphic design.

Colher typeface by Eurico Sá Fernandes

He explains: “The heart of this typeface is the exploration of the geometric contemporary forms based on a minimal grid, which is composed by a proportion of four units high by two units wide. The limitations of this grid and links provided a new character for this typeface to meet the qualities of a display typeface. In the last year the section of glyphs was increased in order for it to become a retail typeface.”

Colher is available for download from the online font shop, HypeForType
