Simon Collingwood, a third year student from Design for Information, part of BA Graphic Media & Design (GMD) has just got lucky and secured a coveted internship at Nobrow.
Nobrow works with talented designers and illustrators from around the world to produce books, prints and other fine collectible objects. Simon is undertaking the GMD Diploma in Professional Studies and will be back at LCC to complete his degree in October 2010.
Simon comments on his experience of working at Nobrow so far:
I’m currently interning at Nobrow who are based on Great Eastern Street and create some of the most beautifully illustrated books I’ve seen. Sam & Alex (founders) are responsible for all things creative and it’s been great to see how their ideas are translated into print, with the help of some of the best illustration talent in the industry. I’ve been working mostly alongside Graphic Designer Natasha, helping her with a few small projects along with everyday tasks. She’s incredibly talented and has taken the time to share some of her knowledge, which is awesome.
Nobrow produce all their Small Press books in-house using the screen printing process. They have a wonderful aesthetic and the quality of the paper feels great. These are seriously limited so it’s always best to act quick. Then there’s Nobrow Press, where editions range from between 3000 – 5000 copies and these are mostly professionally printed in London. All this makes you appreciate the brilliant screen printing facilities at LCC even more.
Nobrow have an exhibition coming up called Four Hats, featuring the brilliant work of Matthew Cruickshank….one definitely not to be missed, more details here.
