A third year BA Graphic Media Design student specialising in Interactive & Moving Image is working with rAndom International as part of her Diploma in Professional Studies (a year typically spent accruing as much industry insight as humanly possible). Kate Pincott is working at the digital art installation company that produces experimental, often interactive work that bridges the gaps between art, design, science and architecture.
Kate says of the experience so far:
I have really enjoyed working in the studio with rAndom, taking part in brainstorming meetings and helping on the assembly line.
It has really helped me to think about planning my own future projects carefully after seeing them pull off such large scale interactives.
It has been great to experience working in such a small team and observing their efficiency. They are a great company and I look forward to their future work.
Founded by Stuart Wood, Flo Ortkrass and Hannes Koch in 2002, the studio’s most recent work is Swarm, an experimental light installation with a real ‘collective consciousness’ that subtly reacts to the viewer’s audible presence. It helped win them a Designers of the Future Award at Design Miami / Art Basel 2010 and you can watch it in action above.
