Third Year BA Graphic & Media Design – Design for Information student Joshua Lee Chang Kai Lee is currently interning with David McCandless, world famous information designer, as part of his Diploma in Professional Studies and year out.
David McCandless is an award-winning writer, designer and author based in London. His work has appeared in over 40 publications worldwide and his new book ‘Information Is Beautiful’ explores the potential of data visualisation as a new direction for journalism and story-telling.
Joshua Lee Chang Kai Lee will return to LCC to complete the final year of his degree in the autumn, but in the meantime he is enjoying his internship with David. He comments:
“I am currently interning as a designer at Information is Beautiful — bringing interactivity to some of David McCandless’s infographics and making them come alive. It’s an exciting experience for me and I have been graciously given opportunities to contribute creatively even though some of my tasks are more programmatic by nature. My previous experience as a programmer is blending wonderfully with the knowledge that I have gleaned as an information designer at LCC.
David is very interested in politics and climate change and the LCC project that I worked on in my second year proved a very useful conversation piece when I started working with him. In addition, the chance to take a slight peek at the techniques and methodologies employed by David and his team has greatly broadened my perspective on information design — hopefully allowing me to realise new approaches and possibilities when I return to the final year in October.”
