Overseas Courses
Gareth Rees (Course Leader EAP China) says
“Since August, we have been running a continuous programme of academic English and masters preparation courses in Beijing, China. This programme has built on previous years, when we have run a few separate courses.
Our main tutor in China is Julie Butters, and she is currently teaching on the Academic English for Art and Design course, which will finish just before Christmas. After she has a Christmas and New Year break, she will be teaching a short intensive IELTS and Exam Preparation course.
Alongside these English courses, we have been running short masters preparation courses which focus on critical and creative thinking skills, portfolio development and reading and writing skills. For these courses we send art and design tutors from the different colleges to Beijing.
The tutor on the last course, also gave very well-received lectures at Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication and Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology. The lecture was entitled ‘The connection between facts and fictions- fairy-tales as a form of social propaganda’, and was based on the tutor’s personal research, and more than 150 students attended”.
