Presenting Nadia Scullion – MA Fashion Design Technology (Womenswear)

LCF: What is the inspiration for your collection?
Nadia: My inspiration comes from utilising materials disassociated from fashion within a commercially viable range.

LCF: Where were you born?
N: Glasgow

LCF: Where did you do your first degree?
N: Edinburgh College of Art, BA Design and Applied Arts (Womenswear), in 2010.

LCF: Have you interned or worked?
N: I currently work at fashion magazine archive Elegantly Papered. Prior to this, I worked as fashion assistant at Scottish newspaper The Herald and did freelance editorial work. I have interned at Holly Fulton, Bally, Richard Nicoll and Wonderland magazine.

LCF: What are your future plans?
N: The press show should expose my work to press and buyers and I hope to win support from a London based initiative, such as Fashion East or Vauxhall Fashion Scout, allowing me to set up my brand. I will continue to explore the use of unusual fabrics, such as upholstery fabrics and silicone, through design while also aiming for commercial appeal.

LCF: Why did you decide to study at LCF?
N: Having seen previous LCF press shows, it was apparent that each student was encouraged to develop their own unique design handwriting instead of having to conform to an institutional aesthetic.

LCF: Why fashion?
N: I find the process of translating conceptual research into 3D wearable forms both challenging and satisfying. After researching, fabric sourcing, designing and pattern cutting, the final product is often completely different from what you initially envisaged, which is really exciting.

LCF: Do you have any interesting industry contacts?
N: I have stayed in touch with Bally, who have proven very supportive in providing feedback on my work and also in giving advice on gaining employment after graduation.
