Menswear brand Soviet has collaborated with LCF with an engaging design project. Final year students studying BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Technology: Menswear will be challenged to design an innovative 10 piece SS13 collection, with winning designs going into production and retailed through USC’s 40 nationwide stores. The winner will be announced in June 2012.
Michael Boyd, Soviet’s head of design commented
We are really excited about the partnership with London College of Fashion and finding rising stars within the fashion industry. We are very keen on supporting fashion students and providing industry critique and review that will put students in good stead for their foray into employment in the fashion industry. We will be looking for designs that reflect Soviet’s brand DNA and have an edge over competitor brands.
Tom Adams, Menswear course leader at LCF added:
Live projects such as this exciting collaboration with Soviet provides our students with an invaluable insight into the fashion industry. We’re delighted that the winning designs will be taken in production and that our talented students will see their designs on sale before they’ve even graduated.
The Soviet menswear has a deep history in the European fashion market and will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2012. The Soviet collection features distinctive heritage and character with elements of Russian nostalgia – a winning formula that has helped it become one of the fastest growing brands in recent years.
The students’ work will need to represent all elements of the Soviet range in a 10 piece collection to include jackets, shirts, pants, swimwear, denim, t-shirts, knitwear, sweatshirts with an accessories option. The final collections will need to focus on commerciality and sit in line with Soviet’s main range as well as the additional brands stocked within USC stores.
