MA Textile Futures is 10 years old… but still no plans to grow up! We’ve had a fantastic decade setting up a new agenda for textiles, a roadmap of possibilities for designers who are willing to engage with sustainable thinking, experimental design, and radical doing.

We have set up a new design discipline and Textile Futures has now gained an international recognition. Our key motto: ‘smart, sustainable, ethical and poetic’ still stands today and enables us to reinvent what textiles can be on an on-going basis. Our graduates are all over the world influencing their cultural creative industries, futurising our everyday.

Once again this year, our designers have been involved in exiting adventures, making edible photovoltaics, imagining a future where synthetic biology takes precedent above all other manufacturing processes, invading Milan Furniture Fair, capturing new realities for textiles and keeping the design press busy.

Over the past 10 years, many students, lecturers, designers, scientists, course friends, course critics, colleagues, journalists have made this journey possible so a big thank you to all of you who have been with us on this fabulous journey. Above all, my thanks to Jane Rapley OBE, our Head of College, who believed in this new vision for textiles and perhaps not knowing what she was getting herself into, gave me the green light to go ahead with this adventure a decade ago.
