Exhibition Histories

The Arts Council have awarded joint applicants Afterall and Artquest an uplift for their contribution to ‘artistic practice, research and skills development’. The 50% increase to Afterall is primarily in recognition of their Exhibition Histories research and publishing project, which informs the exciting new MRes Art: Exhibition Studies course due to launch here at Central Saint Martins this autumn.

Founded in 1998 by Mark Lewis and Charles Esche, Afterall produces several strands of publications including the acclaimed One Work series, and popular critical readers East Art Map, Art and the Moving Image and Art and Social Change. Afterall – a Journal of Art, Context and Enquiry, has been published for over ten years, and is purported to be essential reading for any Central Saint Martins Student! Afterall also presents regular seminars, annual symposia and an online publication at Afterall Online.

Artquest provides critical engagement and practical support to London’s visual artists and craftspeople, working with practitioners in London throughout their careers.
