We are delighted for Sang-hyun Kim an MA Fine Art graduate from Korea, who was hand picked as winner of the Jealous Graduate Print Prize 2012. Representatives from Jealous Studios visited the recent Chelsea MA show and were impressed by Sang-hyun’s work.

 Sang-hyun creates prints by burning incense on paper, as if casting a spell and hoping his longings in life will be fulfilled. He explains that ‘In the Orient incense is used in order to connect humans with the being and as if to say there is no border between earth and the sky, or reality and unreality.’

The Jealous Gallery based in Shoreditch, London will produce an edition of his print, 
and include this in their print portfolio and the gallery’s 2013 graduate exhibition. The print will later be displayed at both the January 2013 London Art Fair and the Original Print Fair held at the Royal Academy in April 2013.

The winner of the GAM Gilbert de Botton prize is MA Fine Art student Tom Railton.

The prize of £5,000 goes to the graduate who has shown most development in their creative talent during their MA year, and is deemed most likely to make a sustained and significant impact in the contemporary art world after graduation.

The award was created in honour of GAM’s founder, the late Gilbert de Botton, a visionary financier and well-known patron and leading collector of modern and contemporary art.

As part of the Chelsea College of Art and Design BA show 2012, SALT will be collaborating with ARK to bring you Future Tours; guided tours exploring the area directly around Chelsea College.

The tours will be lead by a group of five voyagers who have travelled back to the 21st century from far flung corners of the future, in order to explore specific locations in the present at which trends or events in their times have their origins.

Tours will include a future London suffocated by Olympic celebrations, ham sandwiches from the Pig Farm located at the historical protest site of Millbank Tower, oppositional yoga designed to counter the passivity of enforced relaxation, and an unlikely alliance formed in the jaws of the end of culture itself.

Tours will be running on the following days at 13.00 -

• Monday 18 June
• Wednesday 20 June
• Friday 22 June

Tours will last for about 30 minutes. Meet at the entrance of CLG17, by the bottom of the stairs leading up to the library.
