Londoner Sally Gordon, has spent the last year on MA Fine Art at Chelsea. We had a chat with Sally to find out how her year has gone and what she plans to do afterwards.

Describe your experience at Chelsea in 3 words

Inspiring, Exciting, Pushing.

Please tell us about your work over the last year

In the last year during my time on MA Fine Art at Chelsea, my work has moved forward, from making installations to painting. I have been exploring the concept of being trapped in the current backdrop of political, physical, social argument and turmoil. My paintings are mixed media incorporating acrylic, oil, ink and pastel on paper and un-stretched canvas.

Please tell us about your work for the final show

My final piece for the show is a large 3.1m x 3.8 m painting on paper and un-stretched canvas hanging from the ceiling in the Triangle Space.

What was your greatest challenge in working towards the degree show?

Moving forward very fast, with a new approach, in the last two months. This required painting six individual paintings in a short space of time which culminated in the final piece I am showing.

What do you see yourself doing after you graduate, what are your career ambitions?

To carry on painting and find a gallery to represent my work.

What have you enjoyed most about studying at Chelsea?

The people – tutors and fellow students. It has been an amazing experience!

What have you most enjoyed about the area around Chelsea? Any tips?

Being at Chelsea feels like you are in the midst of the London art scene with Tate Britain next door and no end of fabulous galleries nearby.

The vibe at the campus is great with its beautiful buildings and Parade Ground to sit in in the summer. The site was formerly The Royal Army Medical College.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about doing your course? Any advice?

Go for it. Embrace what Chelsea has to offer. Attend as many lectures, tutorials, critiques and opportunities to collaborate on shows as possible.
