Jheni Arboine received the UAL Vice-Chancellor scholarship when she studied MA Fine Art in 2015-16. Jheni says of the award ‘I wanted to study Fine Art at postgraduate level to critically analyse my painting practice and expand it in relation to Peircean semiotics and research into art based initiatives within the office environment. I saw the information about the scholarship online and decided to make an application and I was so thrilled to be a recipient of such an amazing scholarship.”

“The scholarship has given me the opportunity to critically engage with my studio practice and to meet other students from over twenty different countries and to benefit from peer-pedagogy, cutting edge tutorials and the theory lectures at the Tate and ICA. Most of all it has given me the confidence to go on to pursue my next objective of applying for a practice-based PhD.”

“During my time at Chelsea I have learned to maintain a mindset of continual improvement and innovation. My time on the course has been incredible, energetic and a real blessing.”

Nyla Sultan, a 2015 graduate of MA Interior & Spatial Design was also a recipient of the UAL Vice-Chancellor award.

She says “I wanted to pursue my interest in design and was commissioned by Thames & Hudson to write a book on contemporary Islamic interiors – I felt that an MA in Interior & Spatial Design at Chelsea College of Arts would help me with the research for this. If I hadn’t have been offered the scholarship I would not have been able to undertake the course, as I am also a mother with three children and would have had to pay for childcare costs.”

“I feel that my work and practice has really evolved and matured. My understanding of alternative creative perspectives has really been nurtured on this course. My time at Chelsea has been creative and challenging, I have formed great friendships and the whole approach to design has added a great deal of depth to my skill set.”
