Space Gallery

Camberwell Space is the public gallery at Camberwell College of Arts. Presenting high quality, internationally-significant exhibitions and events in collaboration with leading artists, designers and curators, the programme reflects and extends the curriculum taught at the College.

The gallery will reopen in January 2018 in a new, purpose-built gallery space at Camberwell College of Arts’ Peckham Road site, next door to the South London Gallery. Working in collaboration with leading artists, designers and curators, the gallery will initiate original, internationally significant exhibitions providing new perspectives on current debates in contemporary art, design and craft.

The public programme will launch on Thursday 18 January 2018 with a major exhibition exploring drawing practice and teaching at Camberwell College of Arts, titled ‘A History of Drawing’. Curated by artist and educator Kelly Chorpening it will feature work by artists including Edward Ardizzone, Wendy Smith, Euan Uglow and Matthew Ritchie, alongside work by recent graduates and current teaching staff. Future exhibitions include a community-facing project with international artist Faisal Abdu’Allah, selected by Hew Locke. This is followed by an exhibition exploring the relationship between contemporary making and language curated by Maiko Tsutsumi, featuring makers from the UK and Japan. A new publication and a series of events will accompany each exhibition.
